Changing a School Admin's School

A School Admin in Scout can see and edit the students enrolled at one school. If a School Admin is seeing another school's students, or can't see the students they work with, their account is probably set to the wrong school. This article explains how a District Admin can check and change it.

Who can do this

Only District Admins can change a School Admin's school. School Admins can't change their own school. If you're a School Admin and you're seeing the wrong students, ask a District Admin at your district to follow the steps below.

Signs the school is set wrong

  • The Students list shows students from a school you don't work at.

  • Only a few (or none) of your own school's students show up.

  • A School Admin gets no students at all, and their profile says "No school set."

How to change a School Admin's school

  1. Click Staff in the left sidebar.

  2. Find the staff member and click their name to open their profile.

  3. Click the Roles tab.

  4. Under SCHOOL ADMIN, find the line that says Scoped to [school name] and click Change.

  5. In the Change school admin school window, open the School dropdown and pick the correct school.

  6. Click Save.

The Save button stays gray until you pick a school that's different from the current one.

If the School Admin has no school

If the Roles tab says "No school set. This role cannot load students until a school is assigned.", the School Admin won't see any students. Click Set school next to that message, pick their school, and save.

Adding the School Admin role to someone

  1. On the staff member's Roles tab, click the + button next to the Roles heading.

  2. Choose SCHOOL ADMIN.

  3. In the Add school admin role window, pick their school from the School dropdown.

  4. Click Add role.

Common questions

Can a School Admin be assigned to more than one school?

No. A School Admin covers one school. If someone needs to see students at several schools, talk with your District Admin about which role fits best.

Will they see students who used to attend the school?

Yes. A School Admin can see every student who has ever been enrolled at their school, not only students enrolled right now.
