Common Scout Problems and How to Fix Them (Parents)

Last updated: September 3, 2026

This article collects the most common issues parents run into with Scout and how to resolve them, from signing in to viewing your child's information and using the mobile app.

Overview

Most parent issues in Scout fall into a few categories: signing in, seeing your child's information, notifications, and the mobile app. Use the tables below to find your issue and the steps to fix it. If nothing here resolves your problem, contact your school's administrative team.

Signing in

Issue

What to do

I forgot my password

Click Forgot your password? on the login page, enter your email address, and follow the emailed code to set a new password.

The verification code never arrives

Check your spam or junk folder. If it still doesn't arrive, confirm your email address is entered correctly and request a new code.

"Account not found" error

Double-check that you're entering the same email address you used when you signed up for your parent account. If you're not sure which address that is, contact your school.

I'm signed in but don't see my child's information

Confirm with the school that your parent account is linked to your child's record. Linking is done by the school, not by parents.

Your child's login

Your child has their own Scout login, separate from your parent account. If your child can't sign in, see Getting Your Child's Login Information and Troubleshooting for the full steps — in short, the school can confirm the email address on file for your child or trigger a password reset.

What to do

Grades, assignments, or schedule information look missing or out of date

Information in Scout is entered by teachers and school staff, so it may take a little time to appear after an update. If it's still missing after a few days, contact your child's teacher or the school office.

I have more than one child and can't switch between them

Look for a child switcher on your parent dashboard — it lets you move between each of your children's records without signing out.

Some information seems incorrect (address, contact info, etc.)

Contact your school's front office to correct any demographic or contact information — parents can't edit this directly in Scout.

Notifications

Issue

What to do

I'm not receiving email notifications from Scout

Check your spam or junk folder and confirm the email address on file with the school is correct and current.

I'm getting notifications for the wrong child

Ask the school to confirm which children are linked to your parent account.

Mobile app

The Scout mobile app lets you view your child's progress, sign documents, upload work samples, and receive push notifications from your phone or tablet.

Issue

What to do

I can't find my school or district in the app

Verify the exact name with your school and try searching a partial name — some organizations use an abbreviated name in the app.

Login fails in the app

Confirm the same email address and password work when you sign in on the web. If they don't, follow the password reset steps above before trying the app again.

I'm not getting push notifications

Check that notifications are enabled for the app in your phone's settings, and confirm you tapped Allow when first prompted.

Photos won't upload for a work sample

Check your internet connection and make sure the app has permission to access your camera and photos in your device settings.

The app crashes or won't open

Close the app completely and reopen it, then check for and install any available app update. If the problem continues, uninstall and reinstall the app.

A verification code is rejected in the app

Verify your phone's date and time are set automatically, since verification codes are time-sensitive.

Tips

  • Keep your login information secure and don't share it with others.

  • Sign out when using a shared or public computer.

  • If your email address changes, update it with the school so you keep receiving notifications and password resets.

  • Keep the mobile app updated for the smoothest experience.
